BrakeMaster 9060 for Motor homes with hydraulic brakes
Why do I need the BrakeMaster™ System?
SAFETY! Your stopping distance is greatly increased
by the added tonnage of a towed vehicle. The BrakeMaster™ significantly
reduces this stopping distance, helping to prevent a costly accident. When
driving in heavy traffic, down steep grades or in panic situations, the
BrakeMaster™ will help you control your stop while significantly reducing your
stopping distance.
ITS THE LAW! Nearly every state specifies that
you must have brakes on any trailer that exceeds a certain weight. This varies
by state but is usually between 1,000 and 3,000 lbs.
MOST COACH BRAKES ARE ALREADY AT CAPACITY.
Towing a few extra tons is a burden your motor home brakes are not designed to
handle. Thats why almost all motor home chassis manufacturers state that you
will void their warranty if you tow more than 1,500 lbs.
HELPS PREVENT BRAKE WEAR AND BRAKE FAILURE.
Driving down long, steep grades can cause excessive heat that is aggravated by
the weight of the towed vehicle. This can result in severe brake wear, brake
fade, or even brake failure. The BrakeMaster™ helps prevent this dangerous
possibility.
What makes the BrakeMaster™ System better?
- Unlike most other systems, the BrakeMaster™ is a truly proportional
braking system. As you brake harder, the towed car brakes respond in direct
proportion.
- The BrakeMaster™ brakes all four wheels of the towed car.
- Works on vehicles with or without ABS brakes.
- Easy hook-up in seconds.
- Meets braking requirements for the U.S. and Canada.
- Monitoring system indicates proper performance and braking.
- Works with all Motor homes and cars (car must have power brakes).
- Backed by Roadmaster™ - The leading manufacturer of tow bars and towing
systems.
Questions and answers
Q: What is the BrakeMaster?
A: The BrakeMaster is a braking system that proportionately applies the
brakes of the car you are towing as you apply the brakes of the motor home.
Unlike some of the competitors claims, the BrakeMaster is a truly proportional
braking system that significantly reduces the distance required to stop your
motor home and towed car.
Q: What does "proportional" mean?
A: "Proportional" means that the brakes on the car you are towing are
applied in sync and with approximately the same amount of pressure you are
applying to the brakes on the motor home. If you press lightly on the brakes of
the motor home, the brakes within the towed car will be applied lightly. If you
press firmly on the brakes of the motor home, the brakes on the towed car will
be applied just as hard.
Q: How does the BrakeMaster system work?
A: The BrakeMaster uses air pressure to proportionately activate an air cylinder
that applies the brakes of the towed car just as if you were pressing on the
brakes yourself.
Q: Where does the BrakeMaster get its air supply?
A: If your coach is equipped with air brakes, the BrakeMaster system gets its
air supply from the coachs existing air system. If hydraulic brakes are used,
with no air system whatsoever, there is a BrakeMaster available that includes a
compressor to supply air to the unit.
Q: Do you have a kit that will fit my motor home and car or truck?
A: Yes, the BrakeMaster air cylinder is universal and will work with most cars
and trucks. Yes, we also manufacture a BrakeMaster kit that will function with
nearly every motor home. The type of brakes on your motor home determines which
particular BrakeMaster system is right for you.
Q: Why do I need the BrakeMaster system?
A: The added weight of a car in tow increases the distance needed to stop, which
in an emergency can make all the difference between a close call or a costly
accident. When driving in heavy traffic, down steep grades or in a sudden
emergency situation, the BrakeMaster will improve control and safety while
reducing your needed stopping distance. Additionally, towed vehicle braking is
required in almost every state but has not been enforced much until recently.
Some provinces of Canada are quite strict on towing regulations. In some
regions, heavy fines and citations may be levied on those who are found not to
be in compliance.
Q: What makes the BrakeMaster my best choice for assisted braking?
A: Again, the BrakeMaster is a truly proportional braking system. The factory
brakes of the towed car are not altered or modified in any way. This means your
cars warranty is not voided. The BrakeMaster applies the brakes on all four
wheels of the car being towed, which reduces the strain on your motor homes
brakes, as well as keeping them from overheating.
Q: Will I see a bunch of ugly parts sticking out on my car?
A: No. With proper installation, there is no visible difference to the interior
or exterior of the vehicle. Only a small air fitting may be visible in the front
grill area of your car, depending upon the location chosen during installation.
Q: Can I install the BrakeMaster system myself?
A: It is highly recommended that you have the BrakeMaster system installed by a
highly trained mechanic.
Q: What if I trade cars?
A: The BrakeMaster system is easily transferable from one car to another.
Q: What if I change motor homes?
A: Again, the BrakeMaster system can make the switch with you. However, it may
be necessary to purchase additional parts if the other motor home is equipped
with a different braking system.
Q: What if I tow more than one car?
A: Roadmaster offers a Second Car Brake Kit for those who tow more than one
vehicle. This allows you to have a braking system for both vehicles without the
expense of having to purchase another complete kit.
